ChatGPT Time Tracking Integration

Ask ChatGPT how many hours went into a project last week and get the answer straight from your WebWork workspace. The WebWork MCP connector gives ChatGPT access to your hours, projects, tasks, timesheets and reports in accordance with your role permissions in WebWork.

Start Timers and Approve Timesheets from ChatGPT

Ask ChatGPT to do whatever you would do in WebWork—start the tracker, get reports, approve timesheets, manage leave, and so on.

Reading your WebWork data works on any ChatGPT plan that can add a custom app. Starting a timer, approving a timesheet, approving a leave request or inviting a new member all count as write actions, and ChatGPT only allows write actions through full MCP support. The connector never does more in WebWork than your own role allows.

What You Can Ask ChatGPT About Your Workspace

Time tracking with ChatGPT starts with a question. Ask any of the following and the result comes back in the chat. ChatGPT works out which workspace, project or person you mean, so you never need to look up an ID.

  • hours by project last week
  • who's tracking right now
  • start the timer of a certain member
  • log 3 hours on a select project in a select date
  • whose timesheets are still pending
  • time on a select project vs the estimate
  • approve a member’s timesheet for a select period
  • who was late yesterday
  • approve the leave requests waiting on me
Asking ChatGPT questions about workspace time tracking data with automatic identification

Starting timers, approving timesheets and anything else that changes your workspace needs full MCP support. OpenAI currently runs that as a beta on ChatGPT Business, Enterprise and Edu.

How to Connect WebWork to ChatGPT

There are two methods for enabling the ChatGPT time tracking integration:

Method 1

Connect from ChatGPT’s connector directory. Search for WebWork and click Connect.

Method 2

Connect through a custom connector (connect by URL) by creating one app on each side:

Create the OAuth2 app in WebWork

  1. Sign in as a Workspace Owner or Executive Manager

  2. Go to Settings > REST API

  3. Under OAuth2 Apps, click Create App, name it ChatGPT

  4. Paste in ChatGPT's redirect URI:

    https://chatgpt.com/connector_platform_oauth_redirect
  5. Confirm with the code WebWork emails you

  6. Copy the Client ID and App Secret. The secret is shown once.

Create the app in ChatGPT

  1. Turn on developer mode in ChatGPT's app settings, then create a new app.

  2. Name it WebWork and enter the MCP server URL

    https://mcp.webwork-tracker.com/mcp
  3. Choose OAuth as the authentication method

  4. Paste in the Client ID and App Secret you copied from WebWork

  5. Let ChatGPT scan the available tools, then save

  6. Sign in with your WebWork account and approve the access you want ChatGPT to have

Who Can Connect WebWork to ChatGPT

Setting up the ChatGPT MCP connector takes two separate approvals, one from WebWork and one from ChatGPT.

In WebWork: a Workspace Owner or Executive Manager

Only the Workspace Owner and Executive Managers with a verified email address can connect WebWork to ChatGPT.

In ChatGPT: a workspace admin

On ChatGPT, it's the admins that control Custom apps. On ChatGPT Business, only an admin or owner can turn on developer mode and publish an app to the workspace. On Enterprise and Edu, an admin can also choose which people get access to it once it is published

Accurate Tracking and Great Reports, But Screenshots Feel Intrusive

For me, WebWork Time Tracker solves a few major business problems. It removes the guesswork from tracking hours, which makes billing and payroll much more accurate. It also improves accountability, because I can see exactly how time is being spent across different projects. The reports are a big benefit as well—they give me a clear breakdown of tasks and productivity, so I can quickly spot where time is being wasted and make better decisions. Overall, it saves me time, keeps everything organized, and makes managing work feel a lot smoother.

Comprehensive Dashboard, Great ROI

The dashboard is super comprehensive, and the reports are perfect. The UI/UX of the dashboard makes it really easy to use, and you can get a review of the working of the team's work fast and easily. Overall performance of the application is great, and there are no missed entries. The prices are quite reasonable, and they provide a great return over the investment.

FAQ

No. ChatGPT has no clock of its own and does not hold on to your hours between conversations, so a tracker built out of prompts or a custom GPT loses the record when the chat ends. Connecting a time tracker gives ChatGPT somewhere to write the hours and read them back later, so you can track time with ChatGPT the same way you would in the WebWork dashboard.

Adding WebWork as a custom app needs developer mode, which is available on ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu. It is not available on Free or Go. On Plus and Pro you set it up yourself. On Business, Enterprise and Edu an admin turns on developer mode and publishes the app for the workspace before anyone can use it. Write actions such as starting timers and approving timesheets need full MCP support, which is currently in beta on Business, Enterprise and Edu.

No. Custom MCP apps in ChatGPT run on the web only, so the connector is not available inside the ChatGPT mobile app. ChatGPT's agent mode does not use custom apps either, and deep research can use them for reading but not for making changes.

Both, depending on your ChatGPT plan and the access you approve when you sign in. Reading works wherever the connector runs, while writing needs full MCP support. See OpenAI’s MCP documentation for details.

Only WebWork Workspace Owner or Executive Manager with a verified email address can connect. Either directly from the connector directory or by creating the OAuth2 app, and a ChatGPT workspace admin publishes the app on the ChatGPT side.

It sees what your own account can see, and nothing beyond that. You choose which access to grant when you sign in, you can disconnect at any time, and the connector stores no separate copy of your data. The WebWork and ChatGPT integration gives ChatGPT the same view of the workspace your own account has.
