Multi-Level Approval for Leave Requests
WebWork now supports multi-level approval workflows for leave requests, giving administrators the flexibility to add additional approval stages beyond the standard single-approver process. By default, leave requests continue to follow the existing one-level approval flow, but admins can configure as many additional levels as their organization’s structure requires, ensuring requests get sign-off from everyone who needs to weigh in before time off is confirmed.
How Approval Levels Work
Each level in the workflow represents a distinct approval stage, and requests move through them in sequence:
- Sequential Approval – A request only advances to the next level once the current approver has signed off, keeping the chain of approval clear and orderly.
- Automatic Notifications – The approver whose turn it is to review the request is notified automatically, so no one needs to check in manually or follow up to find out where a request stands.
- Pending Until Fully Approved – A leave request stays in pending status until every configured level has approved it; if any level is still outstanding, the request has not been finalized.
Tracking Request Progress
Employees and approvers can follow a request’s status directly from the request details section, which shows progress through each approval step. Rather than wondering who currently holds the request, anyone involved can see exactly which level it’s at and what’s left before it’s fully approved.
Configuration and Access
Administrators set up approval levels from the leave settings page, where they can add, reorder, or remove levels as needed. This gives organizations with layered approval requirements, such as a manager followed by HR, a structured and auditable way to manage leave sign-off without changing how simpler, single-level teams already work.
